The mid-1990s saw her begin dancing and performing professionally at Boulder's Dinner Theatre in Colorado and Country Dinner Playhouse. Then she moved to the regional theater in Minnesota where she was cast in a mock documentary film on beauty contests called Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999). Then, in Los Angeles, she pursued acting after her film debut in which she played the dizzy, but friendly contestant. From June 1951 to September of 1962, she got engaged to actor Tony Curtis. She is also the mother of Kelly Curtis & Jamie Lee Curtis. Leigh's career in film began in the late 1940s after she was hired by MGM. Her name was discovered by Norma Shearer. Through the years that followed, she appeared in many popular films including Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) as well as Living It Up by Martin and Lewis (a 1954 film).
